Couples Therapy Throwdown!

CouplesTherapyLogpJpg-1024x791CFF members and power couple Shannon McGurrin and Shawn Hooley had e-mailed me about an upcoming throwdown happening in Rhode Island during the first weekend of September. The event is a one-day competition and has both RX and scaled divisions so it is accessible to anyone! We already have three Fenway teams to represent us and would love to have a big group of spectators and competitors. Despite the name you do not have to be a couple to compete, case and point: Eric and I are a team. Here are the details and we hope a lot of you guys will come join us!

On September 6, 2014 – Grab your favorite workout buddy and get ready for a day of  CrossFit partner WODing! Bring your A-game and get ready for a fun, competitive day at Ocean State CrossFit as teams will compete for tons of prizes!

Each team will consist of 1-male and 1-female competitor.

Divisions: This will be a one day event with RX & Scaled divisions.  Weights will differ for the Male and Female partners.

WOD’s: There will be 3 WODs  (and an Final WOD for the top Rx teams).  Movement standards will be coming soon! There will be a full range of functional movements!

Prizes: Cash money and prizes! 

Registration: $125 per team – we will be limiting this to 50 Teams in both Rx and Scaled!  Registration Close August 22, but THIS WILL SELL OUT, so don’t delay!!

*The workout begins with 3 burpees over the erg.  Perform 3 burpees over the erg every minute, on the minute until the end of the workout (on minutes 0:00 – 9:00).

PR for Pat: On Saturday, August 2nd we’ll be doing Pat’s WOD.  Our friend Pat has a long, tough road ahead of him, and needs our help.  You can read his story here.  Pat has already undergone surgery that has taken roughly 70% of his tongue, as well as lymph nodes and glands.  He will require therapy to learn to talk and swallow again, and he faces days upon days of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.  Pat has incredible determination, and with the help of so many that care about him from the CrossFit community here in Boston he will fight on.  Please donate here, mark your calendar for Saturday, August 2nd and join us to PR for Pat.

    Hi everyone,
    I am currently on my way to the west coast to attend PA school in the fall. I wanted to thank everyone for making me feel such a part of the Fenway community. I especially want to thank the 5:30 amers. You guys gave me a reason to get up every morning. Thanks for all of the encouragement and for pushing me every morning. I’ll miss you guys.

    FS: 75#
    ModWOD: 6 push ups instead of burpees until they went away, then dropped to 5. 66 calories.

    I really shouldn’t have done the OH lunges yesterday, my back is in rough shape today.

    Front Squat = 165#. Had been stuck on 155# the past few times.

    WOD = 133 calories.

    Thanks to Sam for the strong push on that final minute.
