Laura’s Weekend of Weightlifting

holleygroupThis past weekend Laura Esposito spent both days with a barbell.  On Saturday she traveled north to Maine for the General Meng Yi Spring Qualifier meet.  It was Laura’s first, and she did great, totaling 96kg in the 63kg weight class (she almost accidentally snuck into the 58kg class), including a clean & jerk PR with a 59kg (body weight) lift.

On Sunday she attended the weightlifting clinic with Holley Mangold hosted right here at CrossFit Fenway.  4 hours of skills and drills, kind of the opposite of the previous day, and in some ways even more difficult.  From all I’ve heard it sounded like an awesome experience.  Hopefully the attendees can share their knowledge and any good new cues.

laurajerkLaura’s been working hard, and I’m proud of her for making the leap into competition.  It’s very different, and not easy lifting in silence, in front of 3 judges, rather than here at home.  Up next for Laura, and Ky for that matter, is the Bay State Games in July at UMass Boston.

    Great job Laura!

SJ: 190# (200# x 1.5). Got 200 over my head twice, but ugly footwork prevented the second rep.
    WOD: 7:43 @ 145#
Wasn’t too focused today. Stared at the bar too much and double under were inconsistent. Great work 5:30am!

Had to move to split jerks in round 4 because I have no confidence in my push jerk.
