Cape Cod Marathon Wrap Up

October 29, 2012
By

This past Sunday Brian Bender and I ran the Cape Cod Marathon.  It was a windy, grey day, with cool temperatures in the 50s, ideal for a long race.  This was Brian’s first marathon.  He later admitted to experiencing some pre-race nerves, but didn’t show it, even as his iPod malfunctioned just before the starting cannon went off.  Alone with his thoughts, and no music, Brian took on the 26.2 miles, and looked good as he finished, still smiling.  Congratulations on completing your first Brian!

Other than seeing James Higgins along the way, my race was thankfully uneventful.  Since failing to break 4 hours at this distance a year ago it’s been my goal to do so.  I spent a lot of time thinking about what I could do differently, but in the end it was only a small tweak to my fueling, actually thinking less, and just running.  I’m very happy to have achieved my goal, and unofficially posted what looks like a 28 minute, 42 second marathon PR in the process.

I have to say, Christine is one of my top 5 favorite girls. Partially because she was my first girl.

Looking forward to being back next week! Miss everyone.

Nice work on the marathon Eric.
I need to start back on the marathon training soon for London next year. Looking to get a bit closer to 3:30 this time. Last marathon was 3:38 earlier this year.

Great job, marathoners! Brian, this is a reasonable excuse for skipping the 6am today.

All DL’s and most Box Jumps Unbroken. Row was maybe a little slow today. Have no idea how I went :19 slower today than last time. I felt like I was hauling ass. I must’ve been on fire back in February.

Super inspiring, Brian and Eric! Talking to Brian every morning, I’ve been impressed by his thoughtfulness in training… Had total faith you’d power through.
