CrossFit Fenway sent 2 teams to compete at the New England Team Throwdown this past weekend at CrossFit Milford, the Fenway Franks (James Higgins, Stacey Kroon, Joe McGhee, Erika Snyder), and the Dirt Dogs (Mary Fergus, Sam Horenstein, Adie Sprague, and I). It was a tough field of 59 teams competing in the RX division, and both teams put everything they had into 2 days of 5 grueling events.
The Fenway Franks went into the weekend with high expectations, and they showed why, with top 5 finishes in every event that featured a barbell. The team opened up with a 5th place finish in the 3RM overhead squat event, and kept the cycle times fast to take 3rd in the chipper that included power cleans, jumps over a box, shoulder-to-overhead, burpees, and power snatches. The Fenway Franks’ best finish though was in Fran. James and Erika PR’d, and Stacey matched her best effort on their way to a 2nd place finish in the weekend’s final event. Had it not been for the 2 mile run, the team of 4 competing on only 7 good ACLs could have been in the mix for a top finish. The Fenway Franks ended in a solid 12th place, not what they wanted, but we often learn more from experiences such as these, than we do from our successes, and I’m sure that will hold true for this team.
It was a weekend full of PRs for the Dirt Dogs, beginning with 3 of the 4 team members PR’ing their 3RM overhead squat in the first event for a 17th place finish in the event, the team’s best of the weekend. I think everyone on the Dirt Dogs PR’d the 2 mile run to take 18th in the event, the team’s second best finish of the weekend. The competition ended with 3 of the 4 team members PR’ing again on Fran. It was a fun weekend, and our team worked our butts off the whole time. I’m proud to have been a Dirt Dog.

There are so many wonderful things about that top photo. Cool 2nd photo too – that’s seriously being in sync! :)
Congrats everyone.
SJ: 80kg
WOD: 10:04
SJ: 36 kg PR
WOD: 13:13 @35kg ..the rope climbs were intimidating- but I was happy to get up there again.
Nice Work 5:30!
SJ – 35kg
WOD – 15:56 @ 29kg and 10/15 rope climbs (pulls from ground for rest, 2:1)
So I learned the tall sock thing is really important. Burned almost entire lateral shin. But I’m super excited about the rope climb improvement (last WOD with them was my first). Next time, I’ll go full reps!
SJ: 52 kg
WOD: 15:20 with 35kg and 5 out of 15 rope climbs. This is my least favorite scale, but I know my abilities well enough to know that I would be wrecked halfway through if I attempted all of them. Another goal to work on, get better at rope climbs!
SJ – 100kg lots more to be learned and trained with this lift.
WOD – 9:50 Rx. good stuff!
SJ: 80 kg – PR
WOD: 21:46 @ 60 kg. Took me forever, but I wanted to do each and every one of those damn 15 rope climbs – the movement I simultaneously love AND hate.
