Less Thinking, More Lifting

October 16, 2012
By

Earlier this week I was working with Laurel on snatch technique.  We were going over all the performance points of the lift, and once I finished Laurel astutely added something to the effect of “…and try not to think too much.”  She’s absolutely correct, and it made me think of the video below.

When you’re stepping onto the platform in competition, or up to the bar for a new PR the work has already been done.  That’s the time to clear your mind, and focus on force production.  We highly value and emphasize technique, but sometimes we’re too form conscious, and get wrapped up in it.  As a result, we miss out on some of the aggression and speed required to hit the big lift.  As you get into your later sets Wednesday, trust your training and just move the weight.

Close call this morning: alarm goes off –> I think “can’t do it” –> dis-enroll from class –> lie back down –> can’t fall back asleep w/ visions of snatching –> get up / re-enroll / hurry to the box = good reflex.

I’m sure a bunch of people have seen this already, but… http://crossfitlisbeth.com/2012/09/19/snatching-the-answer-to-everything-in-life/

Per Erika’s feedback, I’m getting my snatch down. So, my Wednesday is now immeasurably better for having snatched this morning.

    PS: 35 kg
WOD: 13:02 first round at 25 kg, second and third rounds at 15 kg and knee tucks all around. I was in the bathroom when Sam explained to go light, damn my tiny bladder!

    PS: 32kg PR!
    WOD:
    3/5/12 14:13 @ 20 kg
    10/17/12 15:17 @ 22 kg
I probably spent that extra minute today staring at the bar on the floor and a similar amount of time staring at the bar above my head as last time!

PS: 43 kg, sorry to all of those who had to experience me dropping the white plates a bazillion times…Miss Brown tricked me into 45kg and it was SO CLOSE and yet, so floor.

WOD: 11:12 (1/2 RX) Also tricked by Mandy…I thought it was 55 lbs. Twas not. I also thought I would do a bunch of toes to bar and then when I was sick of everything switched to knees to chest.

Since we’re sharing, I really want a breakfast sandwhich.
