Dating and CrossFit can be tricky. As coaches it’s always interesting to see when someone brings their significant other to CFF. I’m not 100% accurate on all the stats, but most of the time, it seems to work out. In Gabe and Rachel’s case, it has worked out better than I think they both expected.
It’s actually worked out SO well that they both survived the CrossFit couple test (trying it together AND continuing it together) – and are getting married this Sunday in Jackson, NH at the base of Jackson Falls! Here is a little back story on Gabe and Rachel in Rachel’s words…
Gabe and I have been friends for ten years so this is a long time coming! I remember Gabe first suggested we try CrossFit back in 2010 when he was up at grad school in NH. He was hooked from the start after he met you and all of the other great folks at Crossfit Fenway and was right that I would like it, too.
We figure that marriage will have a lot of interesting challenges that come along with the permanent commitment so it’s good to know that we’ll have CFF as a place to continually challenge ourselves and support each other. With so much to potentially argue about as we start our lives as a married couple together (should we move to the north shore or the south shore?…where should we spend the holidays?…should we buy a new car this year or next year?) at least CrossFit memberships are something we can both agree on!
On a personal note, Rachel was a free trial in an early morning class I was coaching, and I’ve coached Gabe since we were at the old facility. Rachel took to CrossFit quickly and it’s been amazing to watch her progress since she started. She walked in with an incredibly positive attitude, and Gabe gave her nothing but support from the beginning, through humor and cheering. Gabe himself adds great comedy to class. One of my favorite lines of the summer is “Can you throw another log on the fire, I am freezing here.” Oh, Gabe.
This past Saturday our invasion workout consisted of 30 body weight back squats followed by a mile run. Gabe had finished and Rachel was on her last 400 meters. He sprinted back and went right next to her. You could see her immediately speed up almost with a smile on her face so excited to finish getting to be pushed by her soon-to-be hubby. With CrossFit on the brain for this couple, they are sure to begin their journey together as a happy, healthy, fit pair.
Rachel says: “Although there will be no morning WOD in the hotel that morning or a paleo-approved breakfast, we are sure it will be an amazing first day of the rest of our lives together. We are having a somewhat traditional Jewish ceremony, which concludes with Gabe breaking a glass with his foot. Surely our workouts over the past few months have prepared him well for this important task.”

Seeing Gabe and Rachel support each other in class is awesome. I wish you guys the best and on behalf of the CrossFit Fenway community CONGRATULATIONS!!! (and Mazel Tov).
Gabe, don’t forget to stay on your heels.

It was great to work out with Gabe and Rachel before their big day. Congratulations and the best of luck to you both. Mazel Tov!
WOD: 19:42 Rx (http://www.hark.com/clips/psnbsmyclt-yikes-that-was-rough)
That sound clip pretty much describes this one. Thrusters were unbroken, but those KBS got really tough and runs were miserable. Great job by everyone in the 6am!
the runs are typically miserably. HAR HAR HAR.
mazel tov gabe and rachel! hope you guys have an amazing day and enjoy your trip to bali!
I’m so excited for the two of you! It’s always a fun day when Gabe and Rachel are there. Great job 6 am although I wouldn’t recommend that box jump warmup again. Being Stacey’s guinea pig is not a good thing.
Time: 19:50 (no Rx) =T
Reallly rough haha.
WOD: 23:04, I’m glad I scaled to 30kg instead of trying to RX! Awesome class today!
Congrats and Mazel Tov, Rachel and Gabe!!
Congrats Rachel and Gabe! We are so excited for you! Have a wonderful day and please enjoy a lot of wedding cake for time. Unbroken slices and many glasses of champagne! xo
I loved the box jump warm up! No sarcasm here either!
WOD: 20:37 RX
It was one of the most uncomfortable and challenging WOD’s I’ve ever done. This is the month for getting comfortable with the uncomfortable.
did this one yesterday afternoon with samuel
18:16 rx unbroken. slow. gross.
And of course congratulations Gabe and Rachel!!!!
As Rachel’s long term father (and very soon to be Gabe’s life taskmaster), I do wish to point out that Rachel came by her CrossFit skills independent of Gabe. Her mother has been in training with IronMan Jeremy Woodward for several years, and Rachel was the preteen terror of Concord, NH youth basketball, using her hard hip checks to intimidate opponents under the boards. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations Rachel and Gabe!
WOD – 18:22 Rx – this was a tough one…I really need to work on my running.
Thanks for taking it easy on us during the warm up Stacey.
NIce work 6AM
WOD: 19:56 – 30kg
Despite the fact I was exhausted and brutalized after this WOD, this is the best I’ve felt all week :)
WOD 19:40 – DLs @ 80kg
Swapped dead lifts for the thrusters due to a bum shoulder. Kettle balls were rough.
WOD: 20:37 @ 40kg thrusters. This was was murder on the lower back, really starting tightening up on the 3rd set of KB swings.
And congrats to Gabe & Rachel!
WOD: 17:53 RX – this was surprisingly fun. Good mojo in the 7:30 PM class.
