Mandy’s Birthday WOD

July 19, 2012
By

Mandy’s home for her birthday, but rather than candy, baked goods, meat, or any other food, she requested we program this workout in honor of her big day.  Ms. Brown came up with this one pretty much entirely on her own, so you can thank her for the butt-hurtin’ you’ll experience in the subsequent days.  Happy birthday Mandy!

A couple of keys to completing this workout quickly and effectively: (1) hold onto the plate during the lunges.  That is, do not rest it below your knees, and certainly do not drop it aimlessly, allowing it to roll around the floor.  (2) Unbroken deadlifts.  I think a time closer to 10 minutes is certainly possible on this one.  Who’s going to put it up Friday?

Pretty interesting to WOD with the lights out this morning. Good thing we were prepped for the unknown, unknowable and unseeable.

Oh Mandy (happy birthday!), why would you put deadlifts right after lunges, you evil human being.

    14:08 @110kg

    Great job 6am!

yeah…you’re evil. happy birthday, even though i disliked you for about 14 minutes :)

13:38 (rough estimate based on when james finished) at 55 KG. Light deadlifts allowed me to go unbroken pretty easily. lunges on the other hand…not so unbroken. i already can’t feel my butt. maybe i’ll pass the butt test soon?

    Happy birthday Mandy
WOD – 12:15 Rx – my legs are still wobbly

    Nice work 5:30

FYI – the power was out in the box this morning, so the air condition wasn’t working. Extra warm in the box this morning. Oh wait…

OK.. so this was one of those WODs where I looked at it and said, “That’s it?” And then I looked at the coaches’ times and I thought, “Oh, I’m gonna crush those times.”…. When will I ever learn.

This was one of the hardest workouts I’ve done in a while. I just couldn’t get enough oxygen. Really brutal from a cardiovascular perspective. I couldn’t even double the coaches’ times. And that deadlift is heavy stuff!

    25:23 Rx.

I like Mandy, but not her workout.

Wait, there’s air conditioning in there?

It’s arguably worse at the Somerville box, where there’s A/C… in the *bathrooms*. What a tease.

Happy Birthday, Mandy! We did the WOD in the dark just to make it extra memorable.

    WOD: 13:30 (20kg lunges, 80kg DL, singles)

  6. Rachel on July 20, 2012 at 9:58 am

    Happy birthday Coach Mandy!!!!

    Who is Mandy?

Gorg pic! Happy Birthday, you old woman who does these movements like a boss. Very inspiring!

Isn’t CF all about getting out of our comfort zones? Including no power! Way to adjust coaches and crossfitters.

WOD: 23:53…15 kg lunges, mostly unbroken expect when Jon and I had a moment where we had to review what round we were on and then again when we rebelled against the orange cone. 70 kg deadlifts, unbroken and my very favorite “single, single, double” for double unders. Thanks again Marc and Scott for sticking around for support!

Going tubing tomorrow so I will miss Invasion :(

    Great work everyone!

Happy Birthday, Mandy! Making us WOD in the dark was a nice touch.
16:44 Rx – The deads were brutally heavy the last 2 rounds.

There once was a girl named Mandy
She liked yogurt, lifting, and candy
    She made up a workout
I then threw my back out
    And then she turned 22.

    Happy Birthday Mandy!!!

  10. Mandy on July 20, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Thanks for all the birthday wishes (and poem) friends! And for putting up with my WOD. Sorry for using my superpowers to take out the power at CFF from 3,000 miles away…thought you guys could use some scaling up.

PS: 23 Birthday Burpees have been performed. 22 + 1 for good luck…rx.

  11. Tony on July 20, 2012 at 2:30 pm

WOD: 12:22 RX – that was HORRIBLE.

Mandy might be the new Dr. Evil, but happy birthday nonetheless…

  12. Adie on July 20, 2012 at 6:33 pm

Happy Birthday, Mandy!!! Quite the nasty WOD.

13:54 RX with very, very ugly deadlifting going on. But I was happy about unbroken DUs for all 5 rounds… definitely a first for me!

  13. Ben S on July 20, 2012 at 7:14 pm

    happy birthday, Mandy!

16:43 Rx. felt a little off going into this and 1st round of DLs gave me a skull crushing headache. it subsided after a minute or two and everything was cool. unbroken DLs, everything else…not so much.
