Kevin had a goal. Back in October he ran his first ever road race, the B.A.A. Half Marathon in a time of 1:50:01. Pretty solid for a first half marathon, especially as a first road race, but Kevin knew he was capable of more, driving him to quickly sign up for another half… to be run in mid-February… on the New Hampshire seacoast. Although satisfied breaking 2 hours his first time out, Kevin’s desire to prove he could do better was palpable. He was so sure that he could go faster, and wanted it so badly, that even the prospect of running 13.1 miles in frigid temperatures didn’t deter him.
Fortunately Kevin had great weather this past weekend, as he finished the Half at the Hamptons in 1:39:06, smashing his specific goal of sub-8 minute miles, with an average pace around 7:33 per mile. For both his first and second road races ever, Kevin primarily used CrossFit for his training, and credits his success to showing up and working hard.
Congratulations Kevin! We’re very proud of you. Now if only we can convince you to try a full marathon.
