2012 Games Season

January 25, 2012
By

The official beginning of the 2012 CrossFit Games season is a week away, as registration for the 2012 CrossFit Open begins on February 1st.  I could have posted a flashy video, featuring athletes performing incredible feats of skill, strength, and softball tosses to hype up The Open and The CrossFit Games Season, but I’m sure you’ll find plenty of those on your own.  What I’d rather write about is the CrossFit Games Competition Rule Book.  As our sport continues to grow we need to have clear rules in place governing competition, and ensuring as level a playing field as is possible.  I tend to geek out over rules and standards, so I’m glad to see CrossFit HQ laying out the rules in a legal-style document, reminiscent of my fantasy baseball league’s constitution.  After giving it a read, what I think I’m still most excited about, beyond the clarity, is the fact that The Open will be shorter this year.  Five weeks instead of what turned out to be seven, and only 96 hours to complete each workout.

What is this “Open” you’ve been hearing so much about?  The Open is the first of three rounds of competition to find the fittest athletes on Earth.  Anyone can participate in this international competition, all you need is $10, and either a video camera to submit your workout, or a registered affiliate to validate your score.  Long story short, every event is a home game.  You’ll be able to complete all the workouts in the comfort of your own box, surrounded by friends cheering you on.  I encourage anyone interested in CrossFit competition to give the 2012 Open a try.  Head over to the 2012 Games Beta Site, poke around, and get a head start on registration by creating a profile for yourself.  While you’re there you can check out the CrossFit Games Competition Rule Book too.

I did much better once I was able to focus and get my head in the game.

Really struggling with low energy on this paleo challenge… Need to figure out what to eat to keep energy elevated….

    FS: 105kg – PR
    DBC&J: 8+8 @50kg

I did a little better last time, but that might’ve been due to coach Yosh screwing up the clock and thus giving us a little longer break around round 7.

Paleo Challenge Day 4: The Energy Dip
I felt pretty good the first 2-3 days this week, then crashed around 11am today. The reason (in my expert medical/scientific opinion): not so much sugar withdrawals, but not enough calories. I realized I’d been giving my computer the 1000-yard stare for a full 3 minutes and wondered why I felt so groggy (I’ve been going to bed at 9:30pm, like an 8-year-old). Did some quick calculations and realized I’m not filling the tanks enough, a problem I did not anticipate. Problem identified = problem that can be fixed.

For your reading leisure, a blog I came across at work:

    FS: 100 KG
WOD: 7 + 7 @ 62KG – just a crappy 2 rep improvement from last time, but as they say, something is better than nothing.

  11. Mark Duffield on January 26, 2012 at 8:50 pm

FS: 60kg – PR (even more than my 1RM)
DBC&J: 10+10 @ 30kg. That last round took alot out of me but I should have been able to get one more, and if I did, I have NO idea how many more I would have gotten.

Nice job 5:30am. Nice to see you Stacey.

    FS: 55kg
    WOD: 10+8@ 35 kg
