Learning to Fall

August 1, 2010
By

If you’re an athlete, and participate in a sport, at some point you’re going to fall.  This week we’ll be working on throwing ourselves at the ground, and coming up unscathed.  Practicing going to ground is great for improving coordination and balance, as well as further developing your proprioception and kinesthetic sense.  We’ll be moving through the progression of forward rolls, crane poses, and headstands.  Hitting the deck, and bettering our sense of our bodies in space.

August 2nd, 2010

Skill: Forward Rolls, Crane Poses, Headstands

Strength: Max Rep Ring Dips
3 Attempts
Rest as needed between efforts

WOD: Complete for Time:
100 Double Unders
50 Kettlebell Swings (24kg/16kg)
100 Sit-ups
50 Pull-ups
100 Walking Lunges

Announcements

Nathan Jokel has volunteered to help with our coordination for the Spartan Race, taking place Saturday, August 28th at Amesbury Sports Park.  The event benefits the Home Base Program, and the cost of registration goes up again after August 8th.  Please contact Nathan if you’re interested in joining a team from CrossFit Fenway for the race.

Fight Gone Bad has raised more than $2 million in its first four editions.  This year LIVESTRONG, Wounded Warrior Project, and the CrossFit Foundation are benefiting from the fundraising efforts.  On Saturday, September 25th we’ll be running our heats.  Register today, and join the fight as part of the CrossFit Fenway team.

Please let Eric know if you’re registered to run in the BAA Half Marathon, so we can coordinate leading up to race day.

The Red Sox homestand continues Monday against the Cleveland Indians, so there’s no parking during the evening classes.

Hahaha you didn’t have time to do laundry between Fri a/m classes and then? Good stuff.

25:15 with (mostly) singles on the rope and a purple band on the pull-ups. I got off to a horrible start on the rope and spent forever on the pullup bar, but this was a great WOD to start the week.

I don’t think anyone spent more time on the pull up bar than I did haha please tell me you did your burpees today so that you don’t have to do more make ups? 448 is ridiculous!

      WOD- 19:34 Rx

Today’s 67 were included in the weekend’s 448, so I’m caught up…33 days to go!

    Things I learned today:
    1. Headstands make my eyes bloodshot, and that sort of hurts. As does sweat in your eyes during walking lunges.

    2. I’m worse at double unders than I thought. It was awful- killed my time.

WOD: 24:25 with all sorts of awful scaling and not fun-ness. At least the KB swings and sit-ups were Rx.

I can’t believe it. Just when I move back to Florida, you do something I am good at — FALLING. I miss you all!
